Will The Flintstones Rock Or Are There Too Many CGI Reboots?

// News

How many times have we heard that a much loved childhood classic animation is facing a CGI reboot to the big screen?

Postman Pat, The Wombles, Thunderbirds, Peanuts to name but a few.  It begs the question does the film industry have any original ideas left or are they just sifting through old copies of the Radio Times searching for their next remake idea.

This month it has been announced that the long running plans to reboot The Flintstones in CGI have now been passed over to Anchorman duo Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.

Back in 2012 Skwigly reported rumours that Seth MacFarlane was planning to bring the series back from the stone age onto the big screen however plans fell apart after the initial script didn’t wow the power that be at Warner Bros.

flintstone3_liveNow it’s the turn of Ferrell and his team to show us if they can yabba-dabba-do it or not. One things for sure, it can’t be worse than the 1994 live-action version or it’s 2000 prequel can it?

Rehashing old favourites for a new generation is nothing new of course. CGI reboots seem to have picked up where live-action remakes left off in decades past. As well as The Flintstones, other cartoon classics such as Popeye, Inspector Gadget and Scooby Doo have been subjected to human recreation, often to dissapointed audiences.

So will Ferrell succeed where others have failed, initial opinion seem favourable. Prepare to meet this modern stone age family in early 2017.
