Weird Market organizes the 13th edition of the International Animation, Video Games and New Media Market in Segovia, Spain, from September 24th to October 3rd 2021, with the professional part being on September 30th, October 1st and 2nd. Weird Market 2021 officially opens its calls for projects. Until July 21st the contest will receive projects in five different sections: animation and video games, transmedia, webseries, board games and comics.

Call for projects open

The call for animation and video game projects is once again as a cultural bridge, thanks to its Luso-Spanish environment. In addition, RTVE, Movistar+ and the Annecy Festival continue as collaborators, granting several recognitions such as the Movistar+ Short Film Project Award, RTVE Awards for Best Video Game Project, Most Innovative Video Game Project and Weird Plus Video Game and Annecy-MIFA Award for Best Young Creator Series Project.

For its part, the category of European new media, innovative and transmedia projects continues to be a great continental benchmark on new trends. In addition, this year we also have the international section of animation webseries and the calls for European projects of board games and European projects of comics.

The five calls have as deadline July 21st.

The audience conference

After the good reception it had in the 2020 edition, Weird Market maintains the section “The audience conference” where it is the audience itself who chooses and is the protagonist of two of the edition’s presentations. The users themselves will be the ones who propose topics or presentations that they would like to carry out through a form that will be accompanied by a brief description, an image and the biography of the interested candidate. The deadline for submitting proposals is July 15th, 2021, until 10am (Spain time).

The organization will select five finalist proposals that will be communicated through the Weird Market Facebook page and submitted to the audience’s vote. Those two proposals that receive the most popular support, with a greater number of interactions, will be declared winners and will be part of the programming of this 13th edition.

Last year the winning proposals were “Life is what happens while you make a short film” with Carmen Córdoba; “How to ‘flirt’ in online markets” with Irene Chica and Eva Pérez Misa; and “Music is super important in my project (and that is why I don’t pay the fucking attention to it until the end)” with Joseba Beristain.

On the other hand, today Thursday June 24th is the last day to register animation short films and music videos. The submitted works may become part of the Weird Market Catalogue (along with contact information to facilitate their distribution and sale) or be selected at the 3D Wire Fest – International Animation Short Film Festival, which will again have two official sections competition: national and international.
