WEIRD (formerly 3D Wire) opens 2020 Call for Projects and unveils new poster
The 12th edition of WEIRD – the International Animation, Video Games and New Media Market has announced its Call for Projects alongside the unveiling of its official poster. The event, formerly known as 3D Wire, has expanded its remit to include not just its established focuses on proposals, projects and IPs related to animation, video games and new media but will now also encompass board games and comics. The 2020 edition will take place between September 28th and October 4th in Segovia, Spain.
Created by Spanish studio Mr. Klaus, the poster aims to “summarise in just one character what ‘weird’ is, both for the attendants and for us”. The studio, which specialises in creating quality content for the animation and video games industries, has produced work for and alongside Disney Channel, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Canal + Junior to name a few.
The poster concentrates the essence of this event that aims to be a point of dialogue and exchange between creators, producers, communication channels, professionals in the sector and future talents. Along with the colorful main character of the design, various animated cubes appear; emblems of this forum from its origins, in addition to being its iconic trophies.
Open call for projects
The WEIRD call for projects will be open until July 24th and is soliciting entries in five sections: animation and video games, transmedia, webseries, board games and comics.
The call for animation and video game projects is directed one more year as a cultural bridge, thanks to its Portuguese-Spanish scope. For its part, the European transmedia projects category continues to be a great continental benchmark for new trends, while the international section on animation webseries keeps Átomo Network as its main collaborator. This year there are two new calls aimed to Europe, board game and comic projects. In addition, RTVE, Movistar + and the Annecy Festival continue as collaborators, granting various recognitions such as the Movistar + Short Film Project Award, the RTVE Awards for the Most Innovative Video Game and VR Video Game and the Annecy-MIFA Award for Best Young Creator Series Project.
The event will also be accepting submissions for short films and music videos until June 25th, with submitted works potentially included as part of the WEIRD Catalog or screen at the festival in either its national or international competition sections.
