THEBRUVS.COM – A NEW BRITISH ANIMATED WEB-SERIES
As fans of Gangster movies salivate over Tom Hardy’s forthcoming Krays film Legend and the classic Goodfellas marks its 25th anniversary, a new Brit animated series takes a comical pop at the world of villains, dodgy deals and much more besides.
TheBruvs.com is a new animated web-series about brothers Doug and Den Bruv who have taken over their old dad’s family firm but have moved from London’s East End to leafy Essex to try to make a fresh start – and go straight.
Things don’t go to plan – and generally end in some sort of violent clash… Usually between the Bruvs themselves – as they like to keep it in the Family!
The shorts have echoes of the heydays of the Mitchell brothers in EastEnders and classic cop shows like The Sweeney and Life on Mars as well as the dodgy dealings of Minder and Only Fools and Horses.
But, with the inclusion of a WEG (West Essex Girl) called Chanterelle, who has trouble with her fake tan and hair extensions, there are also hints of TOWIE and Geordie Shore. While there are many targets, most are lampooned with affection.
Described as Little Funny Films For Grown-Ups, TheBruvs contains cartoon violence and some ripe language.
The series comes from TV writer and producer Ian Brown and award-winning animator Eoin Clarke.
Ian has worked with Jeremy Clarkson for 20 years on his solo dvd projects as well as more recent Top Gear projects. He also wrote for the Big Red Book tribute show This Is Your Life hosted by Michael Aspel and Trevor McDonald. He has produced and written for many comedy and entertainment shows and personalities, working with the likes of Jason Statham, Liam Neeson, Amanda Holden, Piers Morgan, Homer Simpson, Simon Cowell, Bill Clinton, Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay, Emma Bunton, Melanie Sykes, Ross Kemp, Kelly Brooke, Davina McCall and many more.
Eoin has worked on many animation projects and various commercials including Go Compare insurance and opening sequences for TV series like Harry Hill’s You’ve Been Framed.
As well as the Gangster genre in general, TheBruvs films also have fun with the works of those Young British Artists Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin as Doug and Den try to get to grips with culture. Fake tanning is also targeted and future episodes will have a unique take on the likes of Gogglebox and other TV and Movie favourites.

It is hoped that, as a fan base grows, there might be other platforms for TheBruvs.
Ian Brown explains:
“The Bruvs is starting quite small – but we have big hopes. It is a shame that there isn’t a big Brit animation that has broad appeal like those American juggernauts The Simpsons, Family Guy and South Park… Animation is an expensive and a slow process. But we are building up a catalogue and have had a very encouraging response so far. Because we are Online we have had feedback not only from the UK but also from America, Australia and throughout Europe.”
Fans include Birds of a Feather star Linda Robson, TV presenter Melanie Sykes and many actors now appearing in the booming low budget British Gangster movie scene alongside people like Danny Dyer, Craig Fairbrass and Steven Berkoff.
“It is early days still for TheBruvs but we hope to expand and make longer episodes in due course – as long as enough people like us and keep watching.”
