Two-time Academy Award nominee Cordell Barker will attend the Montreal Stop Motion Film Festival to introduce the Quebec premiere of his new film, If I Was God, produced by the National Film of Canada, and give a masterclass on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at 4:30 p.m. Two other films produced or co-produced by the NFB will also be in competition: Sexy Laundry by Izabela Plucinska (Clay Traces GBR/Fundacja Las Sztuki/NFB) and All the Rage by Alexandra Lemay (NFB). The festival takes place from September 25 to 27.

Barker is an internationally renowned filmmaker twice nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Animated Short category, for The Cat Came Back (1988) and Strange Invaders (2001). If I Was God, his first stop-motion animation film, had its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and has been selected for festivals in Canada and around the world, including Los Angeles, Melbourne, New York, Ottawa, Vancouver and Angoulême (where the short was shown in its 3D version for the first time).

Sexy Laundry by Izabela Plucinska, whose earlier short Jam Session won a Silver Bear at the 2005 Berlin International Film Festival, is inspired by a hit play by Canadian author Michele Riml, and also received its world premiere at Annecy. All the Rage by Alexandra Lemay, who followed her BFA in Film Animation at Concordia with studies in Practical Effects at Sheridan College, was also selected for the Ottawa International Animation Festival.

All the Rage, directed by Alexandra Lemay, is a cautionary tale about what happens when we don’t think enough about what we buy, and an impassioned plea for animal welfare, inspired by found sound of two dogs growling. Produced by Maral Mohammadian as part of the 10th edition of the NFB’s Hothouse program for emerging animators.

The NFB’s StopMo Studio app, launched in March 2014 and named to the App Store Best of 2014 list, will be showcased in animation workshops presented by the Festival.
