THE MEATSELLER (Italy, 2023) by Margherita Giusti

The SIXTH cruise of the RISING OF LUSITANIA AnimaDoc FF, which took place in ŁÓDŹ (the city name in Polish means BOAT) in the alternative art club UV, finally has reached the shore. Behind us are 4 exciting September Sundays (01, 08, 15, 22.09.2024) filled with excellent animated documentaries from around the world: 40 film passengers from 22 countries sailed on this unique cruise: 15 in the professional cabin, 8 in the student cabin, and 5 in the most mysterious one – MOCKDOC cabin.

The Jury and the audience faced a real challenge, as the level of the films presented was dazzling. Ultimately, however, the Professional Jury agreed that the Grand Prix in the professional competition should go to THE MEATSELLER (Italy 2023) by Margherita Giusti, and in the student competition to IS THIS NOW THE TIME I SHOULD LET YOU GO? (Taiwan/Finland 2023) by Yi-Chin Tsai (Aalto University). The Student Jury had a different opinion, unanimously recognizing I DIED IN IRPIN (Czech Republic/Ukraine 2024) by Anastasiia Falileiev as the best professional animated documentary, and MY MOM (Poland 2024) by Agnieszka Popińska from the Łódź Film School as the best student animated documentary. Both Jury panels met only once with MERMAID COW SAGA by Sashko Danylenko, ironically awarding the true story of the swimming cow with the Make-Believe Award.

The audience had a different opinion, awarding in the individual competitions: ANITA, LOST IN THE NEWS (Iran 2023) by Behzad Nalbandi, COLOURFUL WHITE (China/UK 2024) by Jiahao Li (Central Saint Martins, UAL), and LITTER PECKER (United Kingdom 2024) by Maisie Race (University of the West of England).
