The History of Daylight Saving Time animation for BBC iWonder by Sun & Moon Studios
‘For thousands of years mankind has adjusted the measurement of time in accordance with the sun.
But ancient civilizations altered their daily schedules to hours of sunlight, rather than Daylight Saving Time in the modern sense.
As society evolved, the notion of living strictly by the hours of sunlight faded away’.
In a 2 minute animation for BBC iWonder the enigmatic Stephen Fry narrates an elaborate and fascinating whistle-stop tour through the colourful History of Daylight Saving Time. An idea that was over 130 years in the making from its conception in 18th Century Paris by Benjamin Franklin all the way to its first practical use by Germany in World War One. A funny, fast paced and informative film with a Cartoon Modern inspired style.
The film was made using a combination of Flash, Photoshop, After Effects and even a cheeky little bit of CGI.
