Warm Mountain
What is the film about?
A song for loves imperfections, vulnerabilities and hopes by ‘Loucin’ from her debut EP ‘Anoosh’
What influenced it?
Lizzy Hobbs’ approach to animation, fluidity of line and experimental techniques inspire me. I once heard her say she liked animating under the rostrum because it was a bit like performing. She takes photos when the ink is still wet and if there are mistakes, then there are mistakes. This approach is so far from what we expect when you first learn about animation. The long hours, the endless combing through of in-betweens, clean ups and colouring. That lengthy process can be beautiful but so can Lizzy’s and for Warm Mountain it is the more speedy, performative method that I implemented.
A little background information...
Music video to accompany Loucin’s debut single ‘Warm Mountain’.
How was the film made?
Hand drawn on A5 paper from Rymans with black Japanese ink. I took photos as I made it with Dragonframe on a rostrum camera and then imported the exports into Premiere Pro and edited colours in there. As well as the paper and ink, I used some live action clips from videos I had taken on my phone which fitted with the world. There is also a stop motion section of dancing gems that was a last minute addition. I wanted to do something different with that part of the song and found the gems in a drawer in my room that were the right colour and off I went.
