Musical Traumas
What is the film about?
Musical Traumas came to fruition as the result of the director’s obsession with music schools. It is a rhythmic compilation of traumatic, but amusing confessions of former students, as well as an attempt to visualise music with scrumptious, hand-drawn animation. The experiences may be documentary, but the image comes straight from the world of musical impressions.
What influenced it?
Everyday life: my family life, exploring suburbs and nature in details that are generally neglected. Those moments I inspect with detective, nearly voyeuristic eye.
What inspires me as well are the stories from people that I dig through conversations on my travelings.
A little background information...
I am unfulfilled musician. This is my main obsession beside film. So, for years I was making many musical clips and short, so called “musical diaries”. one example here:
That brought me to backstages of musical concerts and musical schools. Then, I heard some stories that made me realise that I could never invented them.
How was the film made?
Film is a combination of few stop trick, paper collage techniques together with 2D drawn animation in traditional and less traditional style. The process started by collecting many testimonies from unhappy ex-musical pupils. Then, I combined the motifs from those stories into a script, together with Iva Brdar. Then, a team of few more animators beside me (Jelena Milunović, Vuk Palibrk, Marija Đorđević, Mario Kolarić, Katie Woznicki) and I started to work on it, following the script and drifting away from it. Then, combining layers of animation with the first editor Marjan Rubeša. Added some 7 more minutes of animation, changed editor to Marko Simić, made the film more wild and psychedelic. Music was made by Vladimir Chab, sound design by Mićun Jauković and Dako Puač. Producer was Iva Divjak, distributer Vanja Andrijević.
