What is the film about?

Rooted in grief, Isla embarks on a tortuous journey through the wasteland in search of comfort.

A little background information...

I started ideating Isla with my co-director Jack Williams back in November 2023. At the time, the idea was to merge our skills in music and design to create a brief visual piece focused on moving backgrounds accompanied by a soundtrack.

Unfortunately, during the making of this, my grandmother of 91 years of age passed away. She had been the person who raised me through my childhood into my womanhood. Naturally, this was an extremely difficult time for me. My creative juices left and were replaced my extreme grief instead.

It took a few months of healing, family time and time away from creating until I finally decided I wanted to make a film about my personal experience dealing with the loss of someone so important to me.
Isla is a representation of what grief meant/ means to me and my personal journey going through it.

After my grandma’s passing, I wrote her a letter. I chose to keep that between the two of us and so Jack helped me translate this into a beautifully made soundtrack. We dedicated our evenings on the daily after our 9-5 jobs to the making of this film for over 4/5 months.

Alongside the visuals I created with the support of an amazing team, Isla was born.

How was the film made?

It was animated on TVPaint, comped on After Effects, edited on Premiere Pro and the music was created on Logic Pro.
