Day at Beach
What is the film about?
What could be nicer than a day at BEACH?
What influenced it?
Noam Sussman, Laura Jayne Hodkin, and Matus Vizar are some of my favourite 2D animators. Their work has an immediacy to it, as though the story is being told faster than than the animation can be drawn. It’s frenetic and characterful, and something I strive for in my own practice.
A little background information...
“Day at Beach” was made in response to a competition – Dr Simpo’s Animated Antidotes, run by my former Senior Lecturer from Leeds Arts University during the first lockdown. The criteria was only that it had to be under one minute and be funny! This one minute and five second version, then, is the extended director’s cut I suppose.
“Day at Beach” was the competition winner, and was included in the programme at last year’s Holmfirth Film Festival as a result!
How was the film made?
All in TVPaint! I found a brush I liked and animated it from start to finish.
