Claptone – Animal feat. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
What is the film about?
The official stop motion music video I made for Claptone’s single ‘Animal’ ft. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and taken from the ‘Fantast’ album. As my directorial debut, I wanted to make the video with as much practical effects as possible. The video took 3 months of intensive work to complete for which I have conceptualised, designed, animated, screenplayed and directed the short.
It’s follows Claptone on getting to know his inner animal…as Claptone explains here:
“The song ‘Animal’ was one of the first tracks I completed for ‘Fantast’, giving the album somewhat of a clear direction. It’s blunt manner, it’s raw energy and it’s anger and frantic vocals; all the blues rock sound it throws at a pulsating house track just leave you speechless. At first, the musical outcome was a shock to me, but then it opened my eyes to a beauty unseen.”
“Before the song was written, I knew that I was only part human. I focused on getting to know this human side of me just a little better. After ‘Animal’ everything was different. Now I try to chase down the animal within me to find out who I truly am.”
What influenced it?
David Lynch – Twin Peaks, Rabbits
Jiří Trnka
A little background information...
I was approached to make a music video for Claptone next single ‘Animal’. I have been making very short stop motion mini’s on my youtube for over 2 years whilst learning stop motion. Much of the youtube material was made through my smart phone and an app. This project gave me the opportunity to get dragonframe and really make use of my other skills and interests in graphic design, film making and pop culture and music.
How was the film made?
Dragonframe with a DSlr, tripod, lights, etc..the sets were hand crafted and made from foamboard. The puppets were hand made and clothed by the talented Jennifer Kidd. All headsculpts and were hand sculpted by myself.
