Skwigly

The BIFA qualifying short film festival Short Com is delighted to return this November with its latest selection of the finest comedy short films from around the globe. Screening in Edinburgh, London and Glasgow with its biggest programme to date. The programme has been carefully curated via submissions and scouting at the world’s biggest film festivals such as Sundance, SXSW, TIFF, Tribeca.

After a strong showing and popular response last year at both Summerhall in Edinburgh and Peckhamplex in London, we are really pleased to return to the cinema that supports platforms that showcase new filmmakers, takes risks and offers affordable admission prices to audiences. And is looking forward to returning to Glasgow after a several year absence.

In a first for Short Com, it has an exclusive animation programme screening at the ECA in Edinburgh on the 8th of Nov. In what is quite a stunning line-up of films. From the adorable Cat & Moth by India Barnado; surrealist stop motion animation of The Clearing by Daniel Hope, cheeky absurdism of Boobs by Marie Valade, coming of age mental health rollercoaster Night of The Living Dread and absolute food-meaglathon blockbuster Hardboiled by Peter Sluszka and more, the programme is an eclectic extravaganza of exciting comically minded animation talent. All films are vying for the Best Animation Award  judged by Aaron Wood from Skwigly Magazine, multi-award winning animator Will Anderson and artistic director Aneta Ozorek from Kaboom Animation.

In our aim to become the leading comedy specific film festival around the world and become BAFTA and Academy Qualifying, we believe that we are taking another huge step in reaching these goals. This is a world class selection of short films that we can’t wait to screen to previous and new audiences. Not only to entertain but hopefully inspire. For which we are exceptionally grateful to the filmmakers granting us permission to programme their films. With a strong mix of silly, surreal and narrative driven, live action and animation. The programme is as eclectic as it ever has but also the most diverse to date which we are delighted to see more different voices in the film industry come through.
