Recruitment for the Second Edition of StopMoLab Has Officially Started
Professional skills, rules of business functioning in animation industry, building confidence in one’s own attributes, specifying career path and 7-months-long guidance of mentors being world’s leading specialists – all of this is offered by StopMoLab, professionalizing course organized for the second time by MOMAKIN. Workshops are going to be conducted by world-famous professionals, such as Tim Allen, Francesca Maxwell, Kerdi Oengo and Melanie Coombs – known from hit animated productions, such as “Corpse Bride”, “Isle of Dogs” and “Guillermo de Toro’s Pinocchio”. Applications for the second edition of StopMoLab can be submitted until June 25 via form available on www.momakin.pl.
How does modern market of animated films function? How to search for interesting projects to cooperate with? And how does eco-friendly film production process look like? It’s just a few subjects that are going to be the focus of the second edition of professional training for stop motion animation creators. StopMoLab is going to start in July and last for seven months.
– First edition of StopMoLab was a test. We wanted to verify if professional training is even needed. Huge interest encouraged us to prepare another edition that is fuller and offers creators truly vital knowledge that is going to allow them to work in animation industry on their own – explains Paulina Zacharek of Momakin, initiator of StopMoLab. – Animation industry is changing very rapidly. It demands from specialists consistent updating of their qualifications and perfecting their skills. We want to give creators not only professional competences, but above all professional future and help with pointing at their attributes. We give participants a few more months for exploration and finding one’s own path of development. We also allow to gain more experience.
Recruitment is going to last up to June 25. Participation costs 3 000 euros for the entire course with payment in one instalment or two instalments, 1 700 euros each. Program is elite, presenting only 21 spots, 7 people for each profession: animators, production managers and art directors. First classes are going to take place on July 17.
Second edition of StopMoLab is based on three pillars: professional and business skills and mentoring. Classes with each of the pillars are going to be conducted by world’s leading specialists in animation industry.
Mentoring guidance for young creators is going to be provided by the best professionals in their field. Tim Allen – animator known from such productions as “Corpse Bride” by Tim Burton and Oscar-rewarded “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” is going explain how to make puppets movement fluid and realistic. Francesca Maxwell, known among others from “Corpse Bride”, “ParaNorman” and “Fantastic Mr. Fox”, is going to introduce basic aspects of design and art directing in stop motion animation. With her, proteges are going to get familiar with design process, creation of scenography and props for animated projects. Participants of classes with Kerdi Oengo working in Nuku Film – that is Europe’s oldest stop motion studio famous for co-producing “Captain Morten and The Spider Queen” – and having over 40 projects of short and feature length in her portfolio, are going to learn the secrets of animation production.
In the package, except for workshops with world-class specialists from stop motion industry and meetings with representatives of the most important stop motion studios, are also included: accreditation for ANIMARKT Stop Motion Forum and individual mentor-coaching program.
Course was created and is going to be conducted by specialists and professionals working in stop motion animation production every day. Among the teachers are Simon Quinn who worked on “Isle of Dogs” by Wes Anderson, and “Frankenweenie” by Tim Burton; Tobiac Fouracre – main animator on “Save Ralph” animation that was showered with awards; Melanie Coombs known from “Harvie Krumpet”, “Mary and Max”, “Break & Enter”; Thiago Calcado known from “Isle of Dogs” and “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio”.
StopMoLab is a lot of hours full of meetings with mentors, prelections, case studies, masterclasses and lectures. Course is going to be realised online and offline in Łódź.
