Skwigly Film Club #02 – Mary & Max
Presenting episode 2 of the Skwigly Animation Film Club!
In our second episode we press play on Australian director Adam Elliot‘s 2009 feature Mary & Max, a stop-motion tale narrated by Barry Humphries of a fond epistolary relationship that forms an unlikely bond between Mary (Toni Collette), a young girl in Australia, and Max (Philip Seymour-Hoffman) a middle-aged man in New York.
The film sits proudly among the director’s acclaimed short filmography, including the familial-themed trilogy Uncle (1996), Cousin (1998) and Brother (1999) as well as the Oscar-winning Harvie Krumpet (2003). Adam would later go on to direct the subsequent short film Ernie Biscuit in 2015.
You can hear from Adam Elliot in our 2013 Bradford Animation Festival podcast as well as episodes 16 and 30 of the Skwigly Animation Podcast.
