‘Nimona’ feature film adaptation coming to Netflix in 2023
It has been revealed today that the hotly-anticipated animated adaptation of the New York Times bestselling graphic novel Nimona will be released by Netflix in 2023. A partnership of Annapurna Pictures and Netflix, the film began production last year and is being directed by Nick Bruno and Troy Quane.
The news is accompanied by a first-look image of the main characters Nimona (played by Chloë Grace Moretz) and Ballister Boldheart (played by Riz Ahmed), announced in a tweet by original creator ND Stevenson.
Also starring Eugene Lee Yang as Ambrosius Goldenloin, Nimona is produced by Roy Lee, Karen Ryan and Julie Zackary and exec produced by Robert L. Baird, Megan Ellison and Andrew Millstein. The animation is being taken on by DNEG Animation.
A Knight (Riz Ahmed) is framed for a crime he didn’t commit and the only person who can help him prove his innocence is Nimona (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shape-shifting teen who might also be a monster he’s sworn to kill. Set in a techno-medieval world unlike anything animation has tackled before, this is a story about the labels we assign to people and the shapeshifter who refuses to be defined by anyone.
