Based on the National Book Award-nominated, New York Times best-selling graphic novel by ND Stevenson, “Nimona” is an epic tale about finding friendship in the most surprising situations and accepting yourself and others for who they are. When Ballister Boldheart (Riz Ahmed), a knight in a futuristic medieval world, is framed for a crime he didn’t commit, the only one who can help him prove his innocence is Nimona (Chloë Grace Moretz), a mischievous teen with a taste for mayhem — who also happens to be a shapeshifting creature Ballister has been trained to destroy. As the lines between heroes, villains, and monsters start to blur, the two of them set out to wreak serious havoc — for Ballister to clear his name once and for all, and for Nimona to…just wreak serious havoc.

While attending VIEW Conference 2023 in October, Nick Bruno and Troy Quane will appear live on stage to share their inspirational story about how they brought “Nimona” to the screen. With a visual style inspired by the mid-century modern illustrations of Eyvind Earle and Charley Harper, the film brings to life a fanciful ‘techno-medieval’ world where swords and social media co-exist. The production survived through adversity – from a studio shut-down to a global pandemic – and enjoyed a triumphant release thanks to the filmmakers’ passionate belief in the project. “I think the magic of this movie comes from the stories of people who know what it’s like to feel alienated,” says Bruno, “who shared their experiences with us and made sure the representation was authentic.”

“‘Nimona’ is a subversive fairy tale for the 21st century,” says Conference Director Dr. Maria Elena Gutierrez. “It tells an extraordinary story about friendship, diversity and acceptance, and I am thrilled that Nick Bruno and Troy Quane will be attending VIEW Conference 2023 in Turin to tell their own story about the making of this beautiful film.”
