New Ray Harryhausen Awards Announced
The Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation have today announced a brand new award scheme to celebrate animation productions and individuals.
The Ray Harryhausen Awards have today been announced on what would have been the 101st birthday of the Titan of Cinema and the first recipients are set to be awarded on the same date, June the 29th, next year.
Nominations open in January 2022 and cover the following categories:
Best Feature Film Animation
Best Short Film Animation
Best Student Film Animation
Best Commercial Film Animation
Best Online Film Animation
Best Television Animation
Harryhausen Hall of Fame Award
Speaking of the awards Vanessa Harryhausen, daughter of Ray had this to say.
“Dad always recognised the strong educational aspect of his work. I hope that these awards will encourage a new generation of animators to be inspired and follow their own dreams”
Foundation trustee, author and filmmaker John Walsh recognised the influence of Harryhausen on animation.
“Ray Harryhausen’s influence on cinema past and present is truly titanic. I devised these awards in Ray’s name to recognise new standards of excellence in the growing field of animation.”
Fans of Harryhausen can still catch the Ray Harryhausen Titan of Cinema Exhibition on at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh until the 20 February 2022.
