Maynards Bassetts Employ Some Tasty Animation Talent
Rebranding can be a tricky thing, getting the balance of nostalgia for an old brand whilst trying to appeal to a modern audience can be very difficult indeed. We brits sometimes have a tendency to cling on to the past, especially when it comes to our confectionary. How many people have a grandparent who still refers to Snickers as Marathon bars?
Maynards and Bassetts have recently joined their brands together and to raise awareness have employed Blinkink and with it some of UK animation’s best animators and visual artists to reimagine the treats.
Parabella Studios
This “cheeky” reimagining of Bertie Bassett comes from Parabella, the joint creative minds of Dan Ojari and Mikey Please. With the fun pace of their Norman McLaren tribute this fun recreation of Bertie Bassett is substantially less terrifying than previous adverts.
Cartwright Gantz
Simon Cartwright and Nina Gantz, directors responsible for festival favourites MANOMAN and Edmond join forces to present this fast paced bit of hero worship under their new banner Cartwright Gantz. Based on the Kachina dolls used by Native Americans the symbolise the immortal beings that bring rain, or in this case massive wine gums.
Chris Bristow
The don of doctoring stock footage – Chris mischievously splices Jelly Babies, Wine Gums and Jelly Mix into existing footage, creating a compendium of surreal & silly situations.
Jack Sachs
Jack fuses live-action landscapes with his distinctive retro 3D animated characters to give each Liquorice All Sort ‘all sorts’ of smooth moves in these mixed up worlds.
Sebaldo
This felt tip affair has been created by Sebaldo, who has conjured up this rather psychedelic encounter.
Tom O’Meara
Festival goers may recognise O’Meara’s film I’m Good With Plants, his RCA graduation film. Rather more surreal this film takes inspiration from Yellow Submarine, a favourite of the director.
Jonny and Will
There’s a little bit of Animal in this cymbal crashing commercial thats a well timed homage to heavy rock and The Muppets. The two go hand in hand it seems.
