‘Marvin’ From Mark Nute & Baby Cow Released on iTunes
You may remember a while back we interviewed Baby Cow animation regular and freelancer Mark Nute about his latest short film Marvin. The title character is a boy with a hole in his head who looses his common sense and goes on a wild adventure seeking his senses. The film has just been released on iTunes and can be downloaded here for a mere £1.49. The film stars Steve Coogan, who narrates the unique story in a deadpan fashion with music by Jeff Mercel of the band ‘Mercury Rev’. The films look was designed by Frank Pudney and has screened in over 50 festivals.
As well as festival circuit success Marvin has attracted praise from both Disney and Matt Groening creator of Futurama and The Simpsons.
Mark Nute’s “Marvin,” a delightful story of a kid who loses his common sense through a hole in his head, plays like a perverse children’s book, and with Steve Coogan’s deadpan narration, the surprises keep on coming. The animation perfectly services the clever story, and the music by Jeff Mercel, along with the imaginative sound design, make for a funny and odd cartoon. I’d love to see this with a theatrical audience.
– Matt Groening (The Simpsons)
What a wonderful, thoroughly enchanting short animated film!! It had everything; good story, humor, animation, characters, design, entertaining for any audience, and an interesting issue of our times!! Mark is to be congratulated, and I think this may prove to be an award-winner!
– Bill Matthews (Disney features consultant)
