MAF 2019 Dates, Call For Entries, & 5th Anniversary Artwork
Manchester Animation Festival (MAF), a festival celebrating animation in all its forms, will return from 10-14 November, with a brand-new-five-day format.
This includes the Family Day at HOME on 10th, the academic conference which will be held at the Media City home of higher education partner, the University of Salford, and the Animation Festival at HOME from 12-14th.
The event, now in its fifth year, is the largest animation festival in the UK, and its packed programme will once again feature animated short competitions, feature films, retrospective screenings, workshops, networking events, panel discussions, masterclasses and screen-talks from some of the brightest and best talent in the industry.
In honour of MAF’s 5th edition, the team has commissioned artist Frida Ramirez, from MAF’s industry partner Brown Bag Films, to create a bespoke artwork to celebrate the Festival and of course all the incredible animation created in Manchester. Her work embodies the ambition at MAF’s heart to celebrate the talent in the city, and as an international festival, share it with the world.
Artist Frida Ramirez said:
Animation brought me to Manchester and Manchester brought me to good people, great friends, lovely sights and a lot of inspiration. I made this design as a tribute to a city that is so special that it deserves a huge celebration!
Manchester Animation Festival Director Steve Henderson continues:
When we launched our search for an artist to create artwork for the MAF poster we knew we wanted someone who had a unique view of Manchester to share with the world. In Frida we have found someone who sees Manchester through a vibrant, colourful lens and we couldn’t be more delighted to have her playful artwork lead the parade towards this year’s festival in November.
The Festival’s call for entries is now open to all comers for both its celebrated Film Competition and Industry Excellence Awards with a deadline of 29th July 2019, all the awards are free to enter via the www.manchesteranimationfestival.com.
The Industry Excellence Awards offer the chance to celebrate those working in animation internationally in Scriptwriting, Storyboarding, Character Design and Character Animation, and nominees can be put forward both personally or on behalf of an esteemed friend or colleague.
Once again, winners will be presented with the incredible bee statues created by the world-renowned, Altrincham-based, puppet makers and animation producers Mackinnon and Saunders.
Manchester Animation Festival takes place from 10-14 November 2019. Family Day 10 Nov at HOME, Academic Conference 11 Nov at the University of Salford Media City campus and MAF 2019 returns to HOME 12, 13, 14 Nov.
