Lots of Brand-New Belgian Productions to Discover at Anima 2022
Anima, the Brussels International Animation Film Festival, set to take place in hybrid form from February 25 to March 6, 2022, in theatres at Flagey and the Palace and online on the Anima Online, is very proud to be the largest showcase of what Belgian animation has to offer. For its 41st edition, the Festival is honoured to be showing a preview of The Summer Holiday, the latest A Town Called Panic unit, along with other yet-to-be-released films.
THE SUMMER HOLIDAY: A NEW PANIC PRODUCTION!
After The County Fair, the famous Patar and Aubier duo is back with a new unit of A Town Called Panic. Presented during their masterclass at Anima in 2021, The Summer Holiday follows the latest adventures of Cowboy and Indian, whose boredom leads them to build a boat inspired by an old pirate film and go off on an adventure. This is a hilarious film to discover with the family and in preview on Wednesday March 2 at Anima, at Flagey and on Sunday March 6 at the Palace. A little bonus for the carnival holidays, any kids attending the screening in fancy dress will receive A Town Called Panic book.
A RICH BLACK-YELLOW-RED PROGRAMME
As far as short films are concerned, the unmissable It’s Belgian programmes highlight national talent with increasingly numerous quality productions. In particular, there’s the return of Margot Reumont, with her very touching Cuddle, along with Britt Raes’ Luce and the Rock, selected and premiered at the Berlin Film Festival. Also to be (re)discovered during the Festival, on Tuesday March 1 at Flagey, the latest feature from the nWave studio, Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness, directed by Benjamin Mousquet and Ben Stassen.
WORK IN PROGRESS, MADE IN BELGIUM
Taking place from Monday February 28 to Saturday March 5, the Futuranima professional meetings also highlight future Belgian productions. We’ll be able to check out the first images of the feature film Titina, a Belgian-Norwegian film co-produced in Belgium by Vivi Film and Studio Souza, as well as Nayola, the latest film by José Miguel Ribeiro, co-produced S.O.I.L. Finally, the making of Yuku and the Himalayan Flower, the first feature by Arnaud Demuynck and Rémi Durin, will exclusively unveil never-before-seen excerpts from this promising family film.
Moreover, students from RITCS, La Cambre, LUCA and HEAJ have worked hard to create teasers for Anima. They will be shown in turn before the majority of our screenings and they represent the great diversity of our Belgian schools.
