London Animation Screenings to Celebrate 20th Fête du Cinéma d’Animation

// News

The Institut français in London and its Ciné Lumière team up with the Association Française du Cinéma d’Animation and the Institut français in Paris to celebrate the 20th Fête du Cinéma d’Animation.
Over 250 cultural venues and educational institutions in France and in the French Institute’s worldwide network rally around this initiative.

Londoners can experience a wide spectrum of animation genres at Ciné Lumière, from stop-motion with the visual delight Even Mice Belong in Heaven (16 Oct), preceded by a pre-recorded introduction by directors Jan Bubenicek & Denisa Grimmová, to the beautiful mix of stunning imagery and sound in Oscar nominated The Red Turtle (17 Oct) followed by a pre-recorded Q&A with director Michaël Dudok de Wit. Michel Ocelot’s silhouette masterpiece Tales of the Night (28 Oct) also returns to the big screen.

Each screening at Ciné Lumière from 13 to 31 October will be preceded by an episode of the Brazen animation series adapted from Pénélope Bagieux’s comics focusing on 30 bold women who changed the world, illustrating this year’s moto of the Fête du Cinéma d’Animation: “Everything is Political”.

Other highlights include Yakari, a Spectacular Journey (23 & 25 Oct), the story of the brave little Sioux boy Yakari, adapted from the eponymous Franco-Belgian comic book series written by Job and illustrated by Derib, a programme of short animation films A L’air libre (13 & 26 Oct) and the family classic Raining Cats & Frogs (24 Oct).
