Lithuanian Animation Retrospective, Manchester Cornerhouse
Lithuanian Animation Retrospective
Wed 27 Mar, 18:30 (£5.50 full / £4 concs)
This special screening is presented for the 100th anniversary of Lithuanian Animation. The programme starts with the one of the greatest pioneers of the medium, self-taught filmmaker Ladislas Starewitch and her stop-motion masterpiece with live bugs, The Insects’ Christmas(1913). Lovingly curated by Dasa Vanova, the programme offers highlights from the archive and also showcases contemporary talent such as Urte Budinaite’s Independence Day (2012). A dark streak of humour pervades this unmissable retrospective which spans puppet, hand-drawn, cutout, shadow theatre techniques and computer-generated films. With thanks to the Lithuanian Embassy in London, Daiva Parulskiene, Rita Valiukonytė, Dasa Vanova and the Anifest Festival in the Czech Republic.
