‘Letter to a Pig’ Scoops Best Short, ‘Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman’ Wins Best Feature – Anima Brussels 2023 Winners
Anima is coming to an end in Flagey after 10 crazy days and is finally back to full cinemas, with more than 40 sold-out screenings, privileged moments of sharing with the film teams and many successful festive events such as the new Drink and Draw, the Fiesta Española, the Queer Night or the Animated Night.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Festival has evolved to adapt to the new habits of the public and offered Q&A with the directors in almost 70 Festival screenings. The number of professional accreditations has tripled, and the number of student accreditations has doubled, which is a sign of a clear craze for the animation sector.
The attendance figures seem to be at least as good as in 2020, which was a record year, with this year’s attendance of almost 30,000 spectators in Flagey alone. The figures for Anima at the Palace and the Cinematek are not yet known, nor are those for the decentralisations, since Anima will be extended for the first time throughout next week in Wallonia thanks to the school holidays being twice as long as before.
Anima will also be able to count on a new virtual audience from 27 February for another month with an online film offer available throughout Belgium on the Sooner streaming platform. In short, a successful, highly convivial edition with a renewed audience.
