UK Director Joseph Wallace wins VAF Třeboň short film award
The fifth edition of the Visegrad Animation Forum Třeboň has announced its winning projects for 2017. From May 2nd-4th, thirteen participating teams of animation professionals pitched their projects at the industry meeting to an international jury in Třeboň, Czech Republic.
With a special mention going to Czech directors Jan Saska and Vojtěch Kiss along with producers Alžběta Janáčková and Kamila Dohnalová for their project Hurikan, the winner in the category of Short Films was UK animation artist Joseph Wallace‘s Salvation Has No Name (Producer: Lorna Dunn).
The pitched film sees a circus troupe performing “the story of a remote community that descends into hysteria upon the arrival of a desperate refugee, forcing the local priest to confront his morality and choose between lust and faith”.
It was an absolute delight to win the pitching competition at Visegrad Animation Forum, especially as this is the region where the majority of my filmic inspirations come from. Salvation Has No Name is my new fifteen minute puppet animation short which is a political allegory that deals with xenophobia and faith. The VAF experience has been a pleasure, we’ve been well prepped with constructive support and the pitch has led to meetings with some brilliant people and companies who we hope to work with to take the film into production.

Also awarded were director Péter Szeiler and producers Patricia D’Intino, Gábor Osváth and Peter Csornay for their project Castaways in the Series/TV Specials category, with special mention going to Ivana Šebestová (director), Katarína Moláková (writer) and Katarína Kerekesová (producer) for their Christmas TV Special Mimi & Lisa. The recipient of the MAIA Award, selected by Graziella Bildesheim from Visegrad’s MAIA workshops, was Czech producer Kamila Dohnalová.
