Joseph Wallace creates spooky Christmas promo for BBC podcast

The Charles Dickens novel A Christmas Carol blends eerie hauntings with yuletide cheer and is the subject of the BBC’s The Sleeping Forecast Podcast in which British actress Charlotte Ritchie (Ghosts, Fresh Meat, You) narrates Dickens’ classic tale. Who better to bring the promo film to life than stop motion director Joseph Wallace (Salvation Has No Name, The Sparks Brothers).
This spooky christmas short, designed and directed by Wallace, is made in his trademark textural, painterly stop motion style and features puppets by Adeena Grubb and cinematography by Daniel Morgan. The promo illustrates the scene in which Scrooge is visited by the first of four ghosts, his old colleague Jacob Marley. The scene in isolation plays with a lot of pathos, portraying Scrooge as a frightened, lonely old man.
Spooky Victorian houses are my happy place. I had a great time bringing this scene from A Christmas Carol to life, mixing ghostly apparitions with festive fun!
