“Ivan’s Need” available now via Vimeo On Demand
Ivan’s Need, one of the most enjoyable festival hits of recent years, has been released online to rent or buy through Vimeo On Demand via Groupement Suisse du Film d’Animation, the association of Swiss animation professionals. Following the lusty adventures of a young baker’s assistant who becomes entranced by the Rapunzel-esque endowment of a member of their clientele, the film matches the garish colour palette and design style of its 2D animation with a densely constructed soundtrack to create an immensely fun look at burgeoning adolescent sexuality and all of its confusions. Produced at the Lucerne School of Art and Design, the film has screened as part of Annecy, ITFS Stuttgart, KLIK! Amsterdam, Encounters the Manchester Animation Festival and Sommets du cinéma d’animation, picking up multiple awards along the way.
You can hear about the making of the film from filmmakers Veronica L. Montaño, Manuela Leuenberger and Lukas Suter in our podcast episodes Skwigly at KLIK! and Intimate Animation: Episode 3 (streamable below):
