GREAT and Karma Sutra Rides Again Released online!
Bob Godfrey’s GREAT – the first UK made animated short film to win the academy award has been officially released online for the first time on Vimeo on Demand.
Great from The Bob Godfrey Collection on Vimeo.
The short scooped the Oscar in 1976 and was produced between commercial work by there studio in London. It’s a brightly coloured, singing, dancing and above all loving tribute to Victorian industrialist Isambard Kingdom Brunel made by Godfrey who passed away in 2013. Though certain aspects of the short are showing their age and are “of their time” with context the short can still be enjoyed for Godfrey’s trademarked bawdy humour and colourful delivery.
Since the films last public screening, celebrating 40 years at the Manchester Animation Festival, the film has been scanned and cleaned up and will be made available in HD on blu ray alongside a brand new complimentary documentary which has been filmed and produced by the Bob Godfrey Collection that will only be available on home media.
GREAT is not the only Godfrey classic that has finally been released online. The film has been released alongside Karma Sutra Rides Again, Godfrey’s 1971 film that was nominated for the Academy Award in 1972. The short is available for £2.99 to buy or 99p for a 72-day rental.
