Google Spotlight Stories at Annecy 2017
The creative filmmaking teams of Google Spotlight Stories will be presenting a series of demos – VR@ANNECY – at next week’s Annecy International Festival of Animated Film, as well as a special Studio Focus session discussing their latest news, developments and insights. The projects showcased at this year’s edition will be:

The Gorillaz’ “Saturnz Barz” (Spirit House) Demo on Daydream

The Google Spotlight Stories team, in collaboration with YouTube and Passion Pictures, worked with director Jamie Hewlett and Gorillaz to create Saturnz Barz (Spirit House), a 360 interactive music video featuring Popcaan and tracks from their latest album, Humanz. Saturnz Barz 360 VR music video is the most successful 360 music video to debut on YouTube to date, with nearly 9 million views, as well as Google Spotlight Stories’ first 360/VR music video. STUDIO FOCUS SESSION “ADVENTURES IN VR” PANEL DISCUSSION

Google Spotlight Stories executive producer, Karen Dufilho will moderate a discussion about “Adventures in VR,” discussing why they tell stories in VR and exploring some of the following questions: Has the best VR been invented yet? Why is curiosity the key to VR? Is VR reinventing storytelling? You’ll also get a look inside the process and creation minds behind our latest shorts. Get a sneak peek at the upcoming Google Spotlight Story, SON OF JAGUAR and meet writer/director Jorge Gutiérrez (Book of Life) and producer David Eisenmann (Pearl). In the most important match of his life, the once mighty masked luchador, Son of Jaguar, faces his legacy, his family, and what it means to be a part of something bigger than himself.

SONARIA Demos on VIVE

SONARIA, an experimental project from the Spotlight Stories team, follows two everchanging creatures as they flow from one life form to another in an immersive tale of sound and light. SONARIA’S visual language is simple and abstract, designed to suggest, while the sonic language is layered and detailed, designed to answer.”
