// News

Danger Mouse and his trusty sidekick Penfold are to make a welcome return to TV screens in a series of 52 new episodes for the BBC to air on CBBC, rights holders Fremantle Media have confirmed.

Danger Mouse was created by Cosgrove Hall for Thames Television and ran from 1981 to 1992 before the rights were sold to Fremantle who own other Cosgrove Hall properties such as the Wind in the Willows and Count Duckula after Cosgrove Hall closed down. At its peak the show was the first UK animated show to break the US TV market and had a peak UK audience of over 21 million viewers, the show also proved popular during a recent retro TV revival. As a brand Danger Mouse is still incredibly popular and the merchandise still sells to this day even though the shows have left mainstream TV, so it is clear why the decision has been made to bring the worlds greatest secret agent back to life.

Although Cosgrove Hall has returned to business as Cosgrove Hall Fitzpatrick and its latest show Pip The Sea-Pup From Salty Cove has recently launched on Milkshake the show will be produced by Fremantle Kids & Family Entertainment, animated by Boulder Media with Danger Mouse creator Brian Cosgrove reported to be “delighted that a whole new generation will be introduced to his daring deeds” consulting on the project.

There is currently no news whether Sir David Jason will be returning to voice DM, Edward Kelsey will return to voice Colonel K and the villainous Baron Greenback or who could possibly step up to replace the fantastic Terry Scott who passed away in 1994 to voice Penfold. According to Fremantle the show will be updated with Danger Mouses eye patch becoming an “iPatch” and although DM will still reside in his Baker Street postbox it will be filled with “state of the art wizardry”. The shows are set to air in 2015.

Danger Mouse himself had prepared a statement but we couldn’t see what he was saying because the steering wheel was covering his mouth.
