Glockelbar by Mitsuo Toyama
This adorable animation was created for Derbyshire-based band Haiku Salut. The band is an odd mixture of accordions, ukeleles, glockenspiels and piano. The music they produce has a whimsical quality which is great for creating sensitive animation.
The band put together a list of artists they wanted to work with, including Joanna Newsom and Madonna – who apparently was too busy – but luckily Mitsuo Toyama was able to help them out in the meantime.
Mitsuo Toyama is a Japanese animator; his work has a dreamy, surreal style and has been screened in festivals across the world. The song ‘Glockelbar’ is taken from the band’s latest album ‘Tricolore’. The animation and sound work together to produce a glowing, ethereal, child-friendly world, where riding giraffes and living on clouds in the night sky are as possible as getting an artistic hero to create a beautiful piece of work for you. Lucky things!
