Teaser released for Áron Gauder’s ‘Four Souls of Coyote’
Cinemon Entertainment studio in Hungary has unveiled a teaser for their upcoming animation feature FOUR SOULS OF COYOTE. Made with support from the Hungarian Film Institute, the project marks the continued expansion of Cinemon’s project roster as its fourth in-house feature production in the last five years.
The film is created and directed by Áron Gauder (whose prior work includes The District! with accolades including Winner of Cristal for Best Feature at Annecy 2005) and joined by co-writer Géza Bereményi. Hungarian filmmaker Áron Gauder made a huge splash with his feature debut, The District!, which was immensely successful in cinemas in his country and was a star attraction at various festivals (screened at Toronto and awarded at gatherings such as Zagreb, Ottawa, Krok, Sitges, Kiev and Seoul).
Áron Gauder immersed himself in a new venture with Four Souls of Coyote in 2017. Cinemon Entertainment studio and producer Réka Temple embraced the film plan and set to work, and now the film is approaching completion.
Four Souls of Coyote is billed as an epic adventure tale of the Native American creation myth. Through a unique re-telling of the creation of the universe, the film highlights the increasingly pressing need to live in harmony with the environment, before it is too late and we destroy Earth.
Through adventures filled with animals, magic, hunger, greed, and the sacred circle of all creations, the story gives us hope that it is not too late to correct course. It is the last minute to save humans on Earth.
By presenting the magical world of Native American folklore, the film provides keys to understanding the present. According to the director, the film’s biggest commitment is to offer a way out that will take us back to the wonders of life. Not only a creation story never heard before, it also presents the issues of sustainability and shared responsibility that concern us all through the magical and powerful knowledge and wisdom of the Native Americans.
Squarely aimed at a young audience, the project will make use of 2D and 3D, paintings and drawings. The drawings were made by the director Áron Gauder himself; the animation director was Zsolt Baumgartner; and the film’s music was selected from authentic Native American songs. Production duties are being handled by Budapest-based Cinemon Entertainment.
Original language is English. Lorne Cardinal Stewart (Old Man Creator/Old Man), Diontae Black (Coyote), Danny Kramer (Hoksila), Stephanie Novak (Wichincala) lent their voices to the main characters of the film. Other roles include Priscilla Landham, David Mattle, Lily Rose Silver, Bill Farmer, Cle Bennett, Bob Klein, John Bentley, Bill Farmer, Fred Tatasciore, Karin Anglin.
The film is expected in Hungarian cinemas in 2023.
