Fans Still Gripped by Frozen Fever
Disney’s Big Hero 6 is out in UK Cinemas 30th January. Whilst cinemagoers are still anticipating the release of a new Disney film, many are still firmly in the grip of Disney’s last mega-hit Frozen.
Following on from the film’s re-release and DVD singalong release from last Christmas, Frozen is still breaking records being the best selling Blu-Ray of all time in the US, so there seems to be no stopping this success story. With the public crying out for more it seems only natural Disney would want to continue the story of Anna and Elsa. The Frozen franchise will be extended with the animated short film Frozen Fever out this spring accompanying the live action version of Cinderella. Here’s what we know of it so far!
On Anna’s birthday, Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever, but Elsa’s icy powers may put more than just the party at risk.
Broadway Singer Idina Mendel was interviewed by The Telegraph and commented on future plans for a full length Frozen sequel. Regarding the rumours of the sequel and possible stage musical she commented:
They’re all in the works, ha ha!
With Disney yet to officially comment on any plans for a full-length sequel, fans are left in the grip of Frozen fever and we have decided to take a look at one of the main symptoms of this obsession – the merchandise. Last April, official Disney merchandise became so scarce that toddler Elsa dress up kits – which sold in Disney stores for roughly $50 – were found on eBay being sold for over a thousand dollars as parents went crazy to get their children the fancy outfits.
That would be the Princess Elsa dress from the Walt Disney Co. (DIS:US) hit Frozen, the most sought-after fashion item among the kindergarten set. Stores across the U.S. are sold out, and originals are being offered for as much as $1,600 on eBay Inc. (EBAY:US) Desperate parents are sewing their own or shelling out up to $225 for replicas on craft sites like Etsy.com.
As Disney’s buyers didn’t predict the Frozen merchandise to sell out faster than Tangled merchandise, a serious lack of stock called for extra ships and air carriers from factories in China full of merchandise to stock up the shelves for the big Christmas rush.
In the United Kingdom The Mirror (above) reported a Frozen Fury as shoppers were frantic to get their hands on merch, one PoundWorld store in Nottingham clearing its shelves in less than ten minutes.
Frozen fans can get hold of dolls, dresses, plashes and the usual sorts of things you’d expect to find, but with a brand as popular as this one, we’ve managed to dig out some pretty spectacular stuff.
Branded nappy wipes are just the start of the oddities available. Inspired by seeing Frozen themed toilet roll in my local Discount Brands, I came across this on the internet followed by the toilet seat. Sold on eBay, $35.99, new condition thankfully!
Intrigued by a love for Olaf, merchandise featuring the singing snowman reaches its own surprising target market.
This saucy number unfortunately sold out a month before Halloween, but if you’re after something a little racier check out this from eBay.
You can have this item for $20. Needless to say it isn’t something you’d expect to find in the Disney Store but it might just occupy your time whilst waiting for the saucy costume to come back into stock!
Disney appears to have found its way back into the affections of cinemagoers world-wide and the affection has manifested itself in both a desire for anything with the film plastered over it and a huge fan base of crafty creatives making their own mementos of their favourite film. With Big Hero 6 hitting cinemas, the call for merchandise seems to have already been met by the fans themselves, crafting their own Baymax inspired creations.
Here we go again!
