Even 100% Online, Anima Charms the Public
Anima, the Brussels International Animation Film Festival is now in full swing after starting on Friday 12 February. This year, the Festival is inviting its festivalgoers to discover the programme entirely online from their sofas. A new formula that, judging by the number of visitors to the platform since its launch, appeals to festivalgoers and also makes it possible to reach new audiences everywhere in Belgium: a first in the history of the Festival.
We’re over the moon about the enormous success of our platform! We can sense that our public wanted to find the Festival and all these fabulous films, whatever the circumstances, which is very satisfying.
Festival Directors Dominique Seutin and Karin Vandenrydt
This year, the programme is full of films about subjects rooted in reality and current affairs. The features Josep, My Favorite War and Up We Soar, inspired by real events, illustrate the ravages of war and injustice through the journeys of their main characters. As far as the short films are concerned, the Real Life Stories programme of animated documentaries also reflects reality with subjects that everyone can identify with.
In addition, four short films in competition in the Best of Shorts programmes have been shortlisted for the Oscar® for best animated film: Genius Loci, by Adrien Mérigeau, Opera, by Erick Oh, The Snail and the Whale, by Max Lang & Daniel Snaddon and Yes-People, by Gísli Darri Halldórsson’s.
The closing ceremony that announces all the prizewinning films, will take place at 8:00 pm, this Friday, 19 February, via Facebook Live and will give festivalgoers the opportunity to discover the best films of the year during the last weekend of the Festival.
