Encounters 2017 – Call for VR Storytellers
As the May 23rd submission deadline grows closer, organisers of this year’s edition of Bristol’s Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival have opened a call to creative, story-driven filmmakers to submit their work for the festival’s VR content section VRgins.
Following last year’s showcase of VR content that included a masterclass from the talents of Nexus Productions, the new section will focus on work by creatives who work within the emerging platforms of Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and 360°. The 2017 programme will be held at a dedicated VR cinema hosted by the festival, headlined by the festival’s first competitive VR strand (with a main cash prize of £1000) ‘Immersive Encounters’.
The art of storytelling within the VR realm will take priority over the technology itself, with entrants not required to be experts in VR.
VR, AR and 360 are fast becoming hugely popular and increasingly accessible formats, with this new content strand we’re looking for creative filmmakers. There’s tremendous potential for this to become a very powerful tool in filmmaking and we’re really excited to see what comes of it.
