Encounters – Bristol Launch
This year’s edition of the Encounters Short Film & Animation Festival saw its Bristol launch last night at the Creative Common big top, presenting a preview screening of festival highlights as well as the spoils of the recent 0117 Hour Digital Short Challenge.
The animated portion of the screening was an encouraging glimpse at the strength of this year’s edition, which according to animation programmer Kieran Argo has broadened its official selection to seven competition screenings as opposed to the standard six. Amongst the films included tonight were Sun by Paul Hill of A Productions, a wonderfully fluid micro-short with superb comedic timing; Gelato Go Home, the debut short from Trunk directorial duo Alasdair & Jock; online smash Everything I Can See From Here by Bjorn-Erik Aschim & Sam Taylor; and the latest work of stop-mo magic from Darcy Prendergast and Seamus Spilsbury, Wax Taylor’s Time To Go.
The festival programme will include new work from such talents as Will Anderson, Michael Cusack, David Prosser, Anna Eijsbouts, Theodore Ushev and Adam Wells amongst many others both established and brand new to the scene. There will also be three special presentations focusing on legendary practitioner Richard Williams and a Peter Lord masterclass on animated feature film production. The main festival will take place from September 17th-22nd with Skwigly ourselves kicking off their Fringe Programme tonight. For more information on the free event click here.
