Dumb Ways to Die app Review
Many people will be aware of the animated viral PSA campaign commissioned by Metro Trains in Melbourne, Australia created by Julian Frost. The animation has recently won the Cristal for best-commissioned film at this year’s Annecy awards.
The animation is supported by the catchy song created by Tangerine Kitty, which has contributed greatly to its overall success. The animation itself was created in Flash and put together in After Effects.
Last month Metro released a game as an app for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices. The game requires the player to try and stop the various deaths that occur during the animation, with each round increasing in speed and difficulty and including a different type of interactive game play, whether tapping, wiping, blowing, tilting or dragging the characters across different obstacles. This is a great addition to the Indie Game market and, as well as supporting a cause, the simple, clean style of the visuals also make the whole campaign very pleasing to watch.
Whether it would make me conscious of Metro safety could be irrelevant as I’d more than likely be playing the highly addictive game as I walk aimlessly onto the tracks. If you have an iproduct, give it a go, it’s free and a lot of fun, but be warned: It’s highly addictive.
