Dublin Animation Film Festival 2015 – Now Calling For Entries!
Entries are now being accepted for the Dublin Animation Film Festival which is celebrating its fifth year. The festival has grown dramatically from a small one day event originally based in Blackrock, to a two-day event which will be held on the 16 and 17 October 2015 in IADT (Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology) and the Pavilion Theatre in Dún Laoghaire. Application forms are now available at www.dublinanimationfilmfestival.com
One integral part of the 2015 programme will be a showcase of Irish short animated films created from 1995-2015 to celebrate the achievements and talent of the Irish film industry.
‘It has been an incredible five years.’ Fionnghuala Ní Néill, the Festival Director commented.
‘The Festival has grown in wonderful ways. In 2011 we received 45 entries – the number jumped to 146 in 2012! In 2013, our international student winner Kristina Yee also won a Student Academy Award for her film ‘Miss Todd’ and we ended up working together on the 2014 festival. 2014 was terrific – we welcomed Bill Plympton and his film ‘Cheatin’ to the Pavilion Theatre and a winning film, ‘Coda’ by Alan Holly, an IADT graduate, also won 17 international awards.’
‘We wouldn’t have come so far without the support of my team and our sponsors and the animators based overseas. Huge thanks to Neil Kilgallon and Elizabeth Quirke, who have worked with me on the project since 2011 and also to Seana Kevany, Sharon Banks Kavanagh, Robin Whenary, Kristina Yee, Dr. Annie Doona, Donald Taylor Black and Keith Foran for their support. A big thank you is also due to our longstanding sponsors: Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, IADT, Dún Laoghaire Business Improvement District, AnimationSkillsnet, Diep at Home and Blackrock Cellar and Ouzos.
‘We wouldn’t have achieved so much in so little time, without their generosity’.
Dr. Annie Doona, President of IADT noted: ‘The Dublin Animation Festival is now a significant event in the animation calendar in Dublin and goes from strength to strength each year. IADT is proud to support the festival which recognises and celebrates emerging animation talent both in Ireland and internationally.’
