DRAWTASTIC Animation Festival Announce 2024 ‘Golden Pencil Award’ Winners

The finalists have been announced for the 2024 DRAWTASTIC Animation Festival ‘Golden Pencil Award’ winning films and finalists. The DRAWTASTIC festival seeks to honor, celebrate and showcase the work of young and professional animated short filmmakers from around the world – with special affection for traditionally hand-drawn animated films – by screening honored films for FREE on the ‘DRAWtastic!’ animation app.
The DRAWTASTIC festival – now in its 14th season – was originally known as “The 2D OR NOT 2D ANIMATION FESTIVAL”. However, with the advent of computer and AI technology more recent years – which is significantly threatens the artform of traditional hand-drawn animation – it was felt that a title would better represent the counter-technology philosophy of the festival. Therefore, the support of animation created by ‘humble pencil’ technology was adopted under the DRAWTASTIC banner – although all forms of animation, except purely AI films, are supported. Audiences for this 2024 event will therefore be impressed by the surprisingly diverse and varied form of animation with the honored films represented.
The most outstanding films among those submitted to DRAWTASTIC Animation Festival in any particular year are especially honored with a respected ‘Golden Pencil Award’ title. Others deemed significant are honored as “Finalist” films in our 1-hour screening event. We have also added a ‘Junior Golden Pencil Award’ category to the festival program – a category specifically reserved for high school level, and younger, animated filmmakers.
The ‘DRAWtastic!’ app specifically is the brainchild of veteran traditional animator, author and instructor, Tony White – who also founded the festival, 14 seasons ago. The app is free to download to your film and contains not only this current festival event of winning films, but also the award-winning events from previous years – and all for FREE. The DRAWtastic! app also contains an amazing collection of affordable animation and 2D art-related courses that can take those interested in art and animation from novice to potential seasoned professional. In the absence of a formal sponsor, the plan is that all sales will help support both the app and the festival – and therefore thy young animators of the world – in future years.
