Disney Pixar announce Toy Story 4
Toy Story 4 is under works and will be directed by Disney and Pixar’s the main man John Lasseter. After taking a breather and handing directorial duties to Lee Unkrich in Toy Story 3, Lasseter is now back at the helm to bring us more adventure from the Toy Story gang.
Lasseter says;
“We don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before.”
It seems that this is a conscious and considered idea that has not been rushed into. Toy Story 3 left us with everything nicely tied up. Andy’s story had come to its end and everyone had moved on, including the audience. Who knows what will become of Woody, Buzz and the gang but according to an interview with Lasseter for the LA Times the film;
“…Will be a love story and will pick up where “Toy Story 3″ left off, when Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the series’ toy chest of characters were handed down to a little girl named Bonnie.”.
It all sparked as an idea from Lasseters celebrated ‘brain trust’, Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter and Lee Unkrich. They convinced Lasster that it was the right thing to do and he couldn’t stop thinking about it. Hiring screenwriters Rashida Jones and Will McCormack (Celeste and Jesse Forever) to help with the treatment and scripting, explaining that he’d like “a strong female voice in the writing” hints at a change in the story telling dynamic.
With an expected release date of June 2017 we are a long way off but let’s let the sceptics stay sceptic and the believers stay believing. Only time will tell whether this will be another Cars 2 crash or a worthy edition to the Toy Story saga.
