Disney Announces ‘Incredibles’ and ‘Cars’ sequels
Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed at the Disney shareholder’s meeting that Pixar is developing a sequel to their 2004 hit The Incredibles, as well as a third instalment in the Cars franchise.
Fans have clamoured for an Incredibles follow-up since the release of the original a decade ago, and the confirmation that director Brad Bird has returned to write the sequel assures potential audiences that the characters are in good hands. Perhaps the ‘Marvel-lous’ cinematic success of Disney’s other superheroes was a factor in finally bringing The Incredibles 2 to fruition?
Cars, meanwhile, continues to be a lucrative series for Disney with theme park attractions, shorts and the spin-off Planes having bowed in recent years.
2014 is the first year since 2005 to not offer a new Pixar feature, but the addition of these two films to the studio’s slate proves that they have a lot to keep them busy over the next few years.
