“I had no idea I’d be making games for a living! I didn’t even view it as a career option back then”, says Sophie Refshauge, Computer Graphic Artist-alumni from The Animation Workshop, who has been working 10+ years at the Danish company Funday Games.

“All animation projects are about finding the right way to communicate a certain idea or concept”, Sophie explains as she looks back at her student life. Now she has the title of Art Director and follows games from conceptualization to the final marketing. “While you are a student you have a safety-net. It is exactly the time to experiment and try out as many things as possible. I have always kept an open mind and loved trying out different techniques and roles, both as a student but also in my professional career, all of which led me where I am today”.

Sophie has some final advice for the new professionals – “Animation is a craft and skill set which you continuously improve – even out of school. Ai is at the top of everyone’s mind now, but I find it irrelevant to focus on. I do see it as a motivation to keep finetuning my skills and become an even better artist. I believe that quality trumps quantity – always”.

The graduates started back in 2021 and will now pursuit a career in a multifaceted and ever-evolving animation industry.

The production teams consists of 4-12 people and are mixed Character Animators and Computer Graphic Artists. The class of 2021 totals 48 graduates that will now make their way into the animation industry where they will shape the future of entertainment, art, and visual communication.
