Advent Animation 2014 – Dec 14: Merry Christmas (Juan Pedro Arroyo Molina)
https://vimeo.com/113851293
From Granada, Spain, Juan Pedro Arroyo Molina wields his stylus with as much bravura as his axe wielding character. Even the most grouchy muscle man transforms into a sympathetic softie with a few swift strokes. Juan Pedro created the animation specially for the animated advents calendar created by Andreas Hummel and Justine Klaiber (a continuation of the 2013 UMÄR Animadventkalender).
Interesting moment, fact, or point of inspiration from your production:
My inspiration was this kind of people that don´t like Christmas too much, they hate the decoration and all that stuff but they soften when someone takes the time to get them a present. I have to admit that It has happened to me more than ones.
What special holiday treat would you bring to the Global Animator’s Potluck Party?
I would bring delicious food, some spanish food for example, like Salmorejo a special dish from the south of Spain where I come from.
One favorite holiday memory from your childhood:
I remember with joy when I got the Jurassic Park T-Rex toy as a Christmas present, a magnificent, huge and articulated dinosaur. I was six years old.
What’s one thing you are looking forward to in the new year?
Improve my skills as an animator and artist, so It looks like I’m looking forward to working harder 🙂
I had the opportunity to ask Justin and Andy a few questions about the Advent Animation project as well. If you are thirsty for even more animation after today’s post, go see what they’ve got going on.

Last year UMÄR organized a Swiss Animadvent calendar. Why did you decide to take the idea and make it global?
Last year when UMÄR organised the calendar I thought it was a great idea, so this year I contacted them to ask if I could participate and animate one day. When they said that this year they didn’t have time to organise the calendar, I spontaneously asked if they would be ok if I did it this year.
I asked Andreas if he’d be game and since we both know a lot of amazing animators not only in Switzerland, but all over the world, we decided to go global.
The holiday’s are busy times, but you have 24 artists contributing toto the calendar. Why do you think animators take time away from the projects that make them money to make their own holiday animation?
It’s a busy time it’s true, but I think the artists really enjoy having a project next to work. As we didn’t set many rules, they are completely free as to what they do in the clips and so it’s a nice opportunity to do a “personal project”, but with a deadline to keep and to push you on.
What special holiday treat would you bring to the Global Animator’s Potluck Party?
Glühwein! ( this is a sort of hot wine you find at all the Christmas markets)
#AdventAnimation is a daily showcase of holiday themed animation. If you are working on something with a touch of holiday cheer that will be released sometime between 1 December and Christmas Eve, drop me a note and I will put it into consideration.
