Animators, Designers & Illustrators come together for new zine ‘Curious Dot’

Today sees the release of Curious Dot No. 1: Thought Experiments, an independent zine curated by animation artists Tony Johnson and Adam Wells. wherein fourteen international animators, illustrators and designers have created work inspired by known thought experiments of their choosing. The duo hope to put out a series of similar artistic collaborations exploring several ‘quasi-academic themes’, with volume 2 due for release in early 2015.
Describing the presentation of the project Wells, whose animated work includes Brave New Old, and Fake Expectations, explains:
We didn’t want work that existed only to illustrate a text but rather a variety of visual responses that stood up on their own.
Co-curator Tony Johnson, who recently animated the music video Marzipan Reindeer, adds:
We were also keen on the idea of the zine being a little enigmatic, but as each thought experiment is still listed readers can investigate further if they’re curious.
The roster of artists for volume 1 includes Edward Cheverton, Eric Comstock, Loup Blaster, Kristian Duffy, Charles Huettner, Tony Johnson, Jen Lee, Charlotte Mei, Tina Muat, Matthew Pettit, Timothy J. Reynolds, Adam Wells, Pam Wishbow and Yema Yema.
