Crumbs! Stephen Fry To Join New Danger Mouse Cast
Unless you’ve been locked away in a London post box for the past year or so, you probably know by now that Danger Mouse is set to bounce back onto our screens in 2015.
Today, more top secret information has been revealed about the world’s greatest secret agent. Stephen Fry and Richard Osman have been named amongst the new cast of voice talent to join the much anticipated reboot.
Comedian, actor, writer, presenter and all round British institution Stephen Fry has been cast as DM’s boss: croquet-loving chinchilla Colonel K. Fry’s mellifluous tones should work very well as the unflappable rock at the heart of the British Secret Service. Appearing in almost every episode, nearly always on a screen or in hologram form, the Colonel has acres of secret agent experience but sometimes has trouble with perspective. The world may be on the edge of oblivion, but if the office is out of biscuits, then that’s a real crisis.
Also just announced, Pointless presenter (that’s the UK quiz show – not a critique) Richard Osman will play Professor Strontium P Jellyfishowitz, the leader of all scientists on earth. A jellyfish in a motorised fish tank he has no face but wears a pair of half-eye glasses on the front of his tank. He’s incredibly clever and also quite handy when it comes to a fight with his stinging tentacles.
Talking about his new role Osman said: “‘As a lifelong fan of the show and a slightly more recent fan of Alexander Armstrong I could not be more delighted to be playing my own small part”.
While I am sure he will rise to the difficult challenge of channelling his inner jellyfish this is the first bit of casting that I am a little dubious of. With so much amazing voice talent in the UK, I have to question is this the best casting or is it simply because Osman is pals with his co-host Alexander Armstrong, the new voice of Danger Mouse.
Also joining the cast are Ed Gaughan who will be voicing amphibious villain Baron Greenback and Kayvan Novak who will bring to life a variety of different characters across the series. I can see massive potential for Novak’s talents who has made a career out of being a master of funny voices in shows such as Channel 4’s Fonejacker.
The co-production between CBBC and FremantleMedia is being animated by Dublin based company Boulder Media and 52 brand spanking new episodes are due on our screens next year.
