Cookie-Tin Banjo Directed by Peter Baynton
Cookie-Tin Banjo is the new song by New York based Folk musician Benjamin Scheuer and his band Escapist Papers. Once again their gently melodic tunes have been transformed into a equally beautiful music video, created by the talented Peter Baynton of Radish Pictures.
The songs narrative details how the singer comes to be introduced to music by his father, who makes him a “Cookie-Tin Banjo”. This sets the singer of into a life long love affair with music that has circled the globe and lead into the creation of this wonderfully upbeat song and heart warming story of inspiration and love.
Peter Baynton worked with the band before on their previous song The Lion, the music video created quite an impact and amongst it’s many awards picked up at the British Animation Awards and the Special Jury Award for Commissioned Films at the Annecy.
This new video brings together the beautiful imagery of illustrator and designer Nicholas Stevenson, his deceptively naive style places the imagery in the mind space in which the song was likely created, bringing in influence from child hood and folk art, the visuals have similarity to both the illustrative style of Jonny Hannah ( The Man with the Beautiful Eyes) and Oliver Jeffers (lost and found, children’s book author) , but still remains unique and hopelessly charming.
