Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2: New Trailer
The first instalment of ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs’ hit our screens in 2009 and was a surprise hit for directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord. The trailer for the second ‘Cloudy’ film seems to use the same zany sense of humour and perfect comic timing we saw in the original.
After the first film the townsfolk were driven away from Flint Lockwood’s home of Swallow Falls. This was due to the mess and leftovers covering the town, all of which were created by Flint’s ‘water to food’ converting machine.
The second film joins the cast as they return only to find their small island is now home to all kinds of creatures and when we say all kinds, we mean ‘all’ kinds.
In this short trailer we see the same cast of characters being the centre of the story as well as their original voice actors returning to bring them to life, all that is but Mr T, which is a shame but from the trailer it seems Terry Crews, better known as the father from the TV show ‘Everyone hates Chris’, will do a great job as the over reactive police officer Earl.
The animation style seems to be of the same vein as the first film which will make a lot of people happy. The strong acting choices and fantastic posing are prominent in this trailer.
The films humour seems to be as kooky as ever and with a host of food related animals and there is plenty of room for puns galore. ‘Shrimpanze’, ‘Mosquitoast’ and ‘a leek in the boat’ being just a few.
Here at Skwigly we have high hopes for this film. Even though it isn’t being directed by the previous team, it’s new directors Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn have a strong animation background. This will be their first feature film as directors but with something as fresh and different as ‘Cloudy’ it might be beneficial to have new and enthusiastic directors at the helm. At the very least Kris Pearn was head of animation on the original feature so he already knows the characters inside and out.
It’s not uncommon for trailers to show us all of the golden comedy moments before we’ve even taken out seats in the cinema but hopefully this will not be the case. Let’s just cross all our appendages and hope it lives up to its predecessor. Those are large shoes to fill but if the advert is anything to go by, they are on the right track.
The film is due for release in September 2013 and will be available in 3D.
