Children’s Media Conference Announces 2016 Dates

// News

Following the success of the 2015 event, The Children’s Media Conference (CMC) today announced next year’s event in Sheffield will be held Tuesday 5 – Thursday 7 July 2016.

Approaching its 13th year, the CMC is the premier event in the UK for supporting children’s media, and hosts a global delegation of creatives, producers and distributors of kids’ content across all media.

The 2016 event will yield a midweek format and will wrap up on a Thursday afternoon, allowing delegates to take full advantage of all three days during the working week. The event will kick off with the annual CMC International Exchange on Tuesday 5 July, which aims to bring together IP owners, producers, writers, interactive media specialists and service providers from the UK with broadcasters, distributors and funding agencies, and producers seeking co-production potential from around the world.

Tuesday 5 July will also mark the Opening Keynote, followed by the Creative Keynote on Wednesday 6 July, with the Closing Keynote wrapping up the event on Thursday 7 July at 3.30pm.

Following last year’s hugely successful inaugural ‘Changemakers’ strand, more than 1,000 delegates will again hear from changemakers, many of them under 25, who are creating waves in traditional media models, in education and in the minds of today’s young audience.

Additionally, the next major date in the CMC calendar is the annual CMC Animation Exchange on Thursday, 10 March. Taking place at the BIS Conference Centre in Westminster, The CMC Animation Exchange is a one-day event that will explore the transformation of the UK animation industry since the launch of the animated series tax break. Discussions will centre on a number of current questions facing the industry, such as; how are companies accessing the incentive, what does it mean for the funding of projects, what other investment opportunities are available, how do new VoD platforms impact the animation market, and how is training keeping up with demand?

A series of case studies, panels and keynotes will answer the key questions animation producers are asking and allow them to share insights and network with key executives from UK broadcasters via one-on-one meetings. A new development at this year’s Animation Exchange will see a delegation of international guests participating and contributing in the meetings. The event will finish in time for delegates to attend the British Animation Awards which are happening across the river on the South Bank.

Greg Childs, Editorial Director of Children’s Media Conference says:

Our CMC events offer a unique combination of sessions providing relevant information about our industry, often created and curated by industry insiders, as well as offering fantastic meeting and networking opportunities. We look forward to bringing the world-wide kids entertainment community a broad cross-section of experts and content in 2016.
