Chatrone Produces First Netflix Brazilian Children’s Animated TV show “O Menino Maluquinho” (The Nutty Boy)
“O Menino Maluquinho”, first Netflix Brazilian children’s animated TV show, arrived on streaming. Adapted from the classical juvenile book written by Ziraldo, one of the most consecrated brazilian artists, with more than 10 million books sold and translated to other idioms. The work counts with the production of Chatrone, audiovisual producer founded in 2007, with offices in Los Angeles and São Paulo.
This is the first time that the work becomes an animated TV show, and it brings surprises with new characters and a plot that includes contemporary themes to it’s universe. The adaptation creates a new generation of fans of the boy with a pan in his head, “with his eyes bigger than his tummy and wind in his feet” – and that has already been portrayed in movies and comic books.
In Chatrone’s production, diversity and racial representativity are celebrated on and off screen. Entirely produced in Brazil during the pandemic and remotely, the project counted with people from all regions of Brazil and with women in all leadership positions. Apart from that, all original voice actors, have the same ethnical-racial identity as the character they play.
“O Menino Maluquinho” is a huge production and has the adaptation of Carina Schulze and Arnaldo Branco, executive production of Aaron Berger, Carina Schulze and Rodrigo Olaio, direction of Beto Gomez and Michele Massagli, production design of Beta Kruger and Walkir Fernandes and direction of animation of Fits. Gustavo Suzuki is the head writer. The show is still being produced and will release new episodes in the beginning of 2023.

Chatrone Animated Projects History
In 2014, Aaron and Carina, founders of Chatrone, produced in partnership with Guilermo Del Toro the feature animated film “Festa no Céu” (The Book Of Life), directed by Jorge Gutierrez, distributed by FOX USA. The film was indicated to the Golden Globes of best animated film, to the Critics Choice Awards of best animated film, Producers Guild of America of best animated feature film, and won an Annie Awards in the best character design category, apart from raising millions of dollars in tickets around the world.
In 2011, Chatrone Latin America, a production arm focused on the latin american market was released. The company’s first production was “Gaby Estrella”, children’s musical TV show that had three seasons in the channel Gloob, a feature film released in 2018, and many licensed products. Gaby won the Monet Awards of Best Teen TV Show and was nominated to international awards such as Emmy International 2015 and Rockie Awards from Banff Festival in Canada.
In 2017, Chatrone released the action show “Sem Volta” that was on Record and A&E, “Juacas” on Disney Channel and SBT, and an action and adventure show about surf for the juvenile public. “Juacas” was released in Brazil and all Latin America and Italy simultaneously, getting in the number one audience in Italy. The show was also indicated for international awards like Kidscreen Awards 2018 and International Emmy Awards 2020.
During the pandemic times, Chatrone focused its efforts in animation projects. In 2021 released the “Ba da Bean” series, made of 52 episodes, produced in Brazil for the global market. The animation was used to release the streaming service of Discovery Latin America. In 2022 the show “Menino Maluquinho” was released.
At the moment, Chatrone, alongside the Mexican studio Ánima, is producing the feature film “Aztec Batman”, for Warner Animation. The feature, expected to be released in 2024, will show Batman in an Aztec version, fighting against the spanish invasion.
